Where does the ukulele come from?

The ukulele comes from Hawaii, but actually has roots in Portugal! It was inspired by a small Portuguese instrument called the machete de braga,” which Portuguese immigrants took to Hawaii in the late 1800s. Over time, the ukulele evolved into the fun, popular instrument we know today.

The ukulele is often compared to a small guitar because both are stringed instruments. The main difference is that the ukulele has fewer strings (usually 4) and is smaller in size.
